MUZAFFARABAD: Acting Chief Justice Manoorul Hasan of Azad Kashmir’s Supreme Court (SC) held as unconstitutional the Judicial Council established with deposed Chief Justice Riaz Akhtar Chaudhry as its head.

However, the same Judicial Council ordered the Acting CJ Manzoorul Hasan and High Court CJ Ghulam Mustafa Mughal to stop functioning.

The new Supreme Judicial Council headed by acting CJ Manzoor heard a reference against deposed CJ Riaz Akhtar Chaudhry in Muzaffarabad. No one appeared from the deposed CJ. On this, the Council decided to act unilaterally.

Justice Manzoor said in his remarks that the Judicial Council under the deposed CJ is unconstitutional and directed the government of Azad Kashmir to present to the court all evidences against the deposed CJ by 10am tomorrow.

He said the SJC also bound the government not to transfer any official including chief secretaries until the case hearing is completed.

Meantime, CJ of High Court Ghulam Mustafa Mughal sacked two judges—Rafiullah Sultani and Younis Tahir.

Shaukat Aziz Advocate filed a writ against the appointments of these two judges.

Also, former Judicial Council held its meting in Mirpur under deposed CJ Riaz Akhtar Chaudhry, which accepted the reference sent from Azad Kashmir President for hearing.

The Council ordered the Acting CJ Manzoor and the High Court’s CJ Ghulam Mustafa to stop working and appear before the SJC in Mirpur on April 22.

KARACHI: The Jafria Youth Organization and Imamia Students Organization Saturday hold a protest demonstration against Karachi bomb blasts here.

The protesters carrying banners raised anti-government and anti-terrorist slogans. They blocked the main Murree Road at Liaquat Bagh and burnt tyres for half an hour to lodge their protest against the blasts.

Allama Ashfaq Waheedi from Jafria Students Organization and Jafria Youth Organization was leading the protest rally. A heavy contingent of police reached on the spot to control the situation and to cool down the protestors.

Allama Ashfaq Waheedi strongly condemned the terrorism in the country and said that government should take solid action against terrorists. Fear and panic among people is increasing day-by-day due to such blast incidents throughout the country, particularly in Karachi. He said the government should take the matter seriously.

Traffic remained blocked for half an hour during the protest rally. They demanded of the government to probe the terror blasts incident of Karachi. They lambasted the terrorists for killing the innocent people saying terrorists are enemies of Islam, Pakistan and the innocent people.

Meanwhile, the National Peace Committee for Interfaith Harmony has strongly condemned the Karachi blasts which claimed several innocent lives.

Addressing a seminar held in connection with the Kashmir Solidarity Day, Central Coordinator of the committee Pastor Marqus Sharif said maintaining peace in the country is an equal responsibility of the government and the citizens.

He termed the perpetrators of terrorist activities as ”enemies of Pakistan” who are all out to destabilise the country.

He urged all religious and political parties to exhibit greater unity to foil nefarious designs of terrorists and anti-state elements.
